ARTIST NOTES: ‘My oil paintings offer opportunities for social engagement by exploring & interrogating the world around me. In my more recent works, I have been examining the complicated tapestry of my southern African heritage. By borrowing the beauty of the animal kingdom, my painting ‘Black and White’ uses the zebra to look at race relations. Seeing the natural world— & its own precarious state—as merely a reflection of historical & present-day human social injustice. To go forward we must go back. It is not enough to be non-racist, we must be anti-racist.’
